With tight cornering, good grip and faster lap times, this is indeed the ideal weather for speed. And where better to be than at the Lakeside Karting track, at an epic 900 metres long, with ten challenging corners, three full blast straights and two daunting hairpins, it all adds up to one of the fastest, most demanding kart circuits in the country.
So if your planning a day of family karting, arranging a hen party, stag party or children’s birthday party, or maybe your arranging a corporate event, and you haven’t experienced the thrills of a first class karting track before, here are a few basic tips to get you up and running:
Keep Calm and Carry On
If its your first time behind the wheel of a go kart, it can be quite a daunting experience, Don’t panic, the best thing to do is keep calm and enjoy the experience. We guarantee that within the first few minutes, the adrenaline will kick in and you will be having the time of your life.
Relax your driving position
Are you sitting comfortably? If you are sitting too rigidly, with locked arms and tense shoulders it will disrupt the balance of the go kart and slow you down. Try to relax, find a comfortable position and don’t lean forwards, as this will throw off your centre of gravity. Now is a good time to choose your kart.
The Starting Grid
Your starting position is usually determined by practice or qualifying laps. Don’t be tempted to fly around the track at this point, these qualifying laps will give you a really good opportunity to get a feel for the race circuit. As you negotiate the track, think about your corners, where to slow down, and where you might be able to overtake the competition. Begin to plan your race tactics and get ready to open the throttle. At this point you might want to choose your event.
One of the most important pieces of go karting advice is to drive smoothly, and avoid jerky motions for effective racing. Keep a close eye on whats happening, not just on the Kart in front, but further ahead along the track – anticipate your opponents moves. It will probably take a few races before you get into the swing of things, but as we all know, practice makes perfect, and our team of friendly staff are always on hand to get you started, but if your really looking for some inside information, why not look at our interactive race track for some top tips for the lakeside karting circuit.
